Antonio Labuhar is a Croatian artist born in Austria. His artistic journey began in 2017, when he started working as a freelancer in the music video and advertising industry, focusing on directing, editing, VFX, and camera work.
In 2020, he moved to Berlin, contributing as a VFX artist and motion designer before returning to Vienna during the pandemic. There, he completed his master’s degree in Digital Design & Experimental Media in 2022 at University of Applied Science Sankt Pölten.
Currently based in Vienna, he explores a wide range of analog and digital mediums. With a passion for diverse creative expressions, he avoids confinement to a single medium, instead embracing the interplay of physical and digital to create enduring, purpose-driven art. His works navigate the tension between materiality, corporeality, space, and both analog and digital realities. His evolving style reflects his fascination with translating themes across platforms, resulting in thought-provoking and unique works.
“My journey into the analog world began a few years ago, driven by the urge to create something lasting and tangible. The digital world moves fast—it’s fleeting and impermanent. Content is swiped away in seconds, making it harder and harder to form a true emotional connection. This left me with a sense of dissatisfaction. I didn’t feel free.
So, I wanted to create something in the physical world—something that allows for imperfections, embraces organic structures, and can even outlive me.
Through wool and textiles, I found a way to build a safe space for myself—a tangible anchor I can return to whenever I need to disconnect from negative thoughts. In my work, I love exploring social and personal themes—stories that invite people to feel, connect, and reflect. By designing emotionally resonant, purposeful works with high-quality, sustainable materials, I challenge the fast-paced nature of industrial mass production. With this in mind, I hope to make the world a softer, more comforting place.”
